    How to play four-point Pitch

You and Leo are partners, playing against Mina and Rosa. Each player receives six cards from a standard deck. The undealt cards stay out of play.

    1. Bid 2, 3 or 4 points, or pass. Bidding goes around once. A bid must rise, except the dealer can match the highest bid. If everyone passes, the dealer must bid.
    2. The winning bidder leads a card. Its suit becomes trump for the entire hand.
    3. Follow the led suit or play a trump. If you have no card of the led suit, play anything. The highest trump wins; otherwise, the highest card of the led suit wins.
    4. The trick winner leads next. Score after all six tricks.

    The four points

    • High: capture the highest trump dealt.
    • Low: capture the lowest trump dealt.
    • Jack: capture the trump jack, if it was dealt.
    • Game: capture the greater card-value total: ten = 10, Ace = 4, King = 3, Queen = 2, Jack = 1. A tie awards neither team this point.

    Making your bid

Collect at least your bid to keep all points earned. Fall short and lose the bid amount instead. The other team keeps its earned points. Reach 21 or more on a hand where your team made the winning bid to win the match.

    The version at this table

This is four-point partnership Pitch, also called Setback. Low belongs to the capturing team. There is no redeal, smudge bid or joker. Other families use different rules.
