Play Pepper Online Free
Partner with Leo, choose trump and bid for six tricks. Play traditional Pepper with Little Pepper, Big Pepper and one-card exchanges.
Learn Pepper in five steps
- You and Leo face Mina and Rosa. Everyone receives six cards, using only the nines through aces.
- Bid once, clockwise. Choose 1 to 6 tricks, Little Pepper or Big Pepper, or pass. Every new bid must be higher. Four passes produce a new deal.
- The highest bidder chooses trump or no trump. Except on Big Pepper, they choose to keep their partner or exchange one card and play alone.
- The defenders decide whether to play or surrender. The first gives an opinion; their partner makes the final decision.
- The bidder leads. Follow suit if possible. Highest trump wins, otherwise highest in the led suit. Play all six tricks, score and deal again.
Know your bowers
The trump jack is highest. The other jack of the same color is second highest and counts as trump, including when following suit. Hearts trump means the diamond jack is a heart for this hand. Then come ace, king, queen, ten and nine. In no trump, aces are high and jacks stay in their printed suits.
With a partner or alone?
For an exchange, discard one card. Your partner sends a card without seeing the discard, then sits out with their remaining cards. On Big Pepper, your partner sits out without sending a card. All six tricks must be won by the bidding side on either Pepper bid.
Scoring this table
| Bid | Bidders | Defenders who play |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 6 | Make the bid: add it. Miss: subtract it. | One point per trick, or lose the bid amount for no tricks. |
| Little Pepper | All six: +7. Otherwise: -7. | Reverse of the bidders' score. |
| Big Pepper | All six alone: +14. Otherwise: -14. | Reverse of the bidders' score. |
| Surrender | Add the bid's points. | No points gained or lost. |
Scores may be negative. When either team reaches 42 or more, the higher score wins. A tie at or above 42 needs another hand. This table includes the no-trick penalty on a bid of six; some groups waive it.
A useful first strategy
Count likely winners, not just picture cards. Bowers and long trump suits make safer bids. Save a strong trump when your partner is already winning. A hint uses your hand and public information, not opponents' hidden cards.
Controls and saving
Tap a lit card to play or select an exchange card. On desktop you can drag a legal card into the trick. Tab and Enter operate the same controls. Sound is optional. Progress saves after each move; play pauses when this tab is hidden or the restart dialog is open. Complete a match while signed in to record your result.
