How to play Pitty Pat
- Everyone starts with five cards. Match the rank of the face-up card, regardless of suit.
- After matching, discard one more card of your choice. That card sets the next player's target.
- No match? Turn up a stock card. If you can match its rank, play your match and then discard. Otherwise, pass.
- Empty your hand to win a point. If your last two cards form a pair, claim the hand on your turn.
Winning the match
The first player to win five hands wins the match. Aces match aces; suits and numerical card values do not matter. Stock cards are turned onto the discard pile, not added to your hand.
A simple starting strategy
Keep a pair when you can. Your final pair can win together, and your second discard decides which rank the next player must match.
Our table rules
This is the five-card, rank-matching version, not the version where everyone collects pairs. The old discard pile is shuffled when the stock runs out, keeping the current top card in place. A blocked hand, or a hand reaching 250 completed turns, is redealt without a point.
