Rummoli Rules, Demonstrated
Replay each short example to see how the widow, Poker, pay cards, and opposite-color restarts work at this table.
Choose the widow without seeing it
Only the dealer chooses. Keep the original hand, or exchange the entire hand for the sealed widow before any widow card is revealed.
Compare the best five-card Poker hand
Every player uses the strongest five cards in their full hand. The winner collects the Poker pot and leads the first card of the Rummoli sequence.
Claim a pay-card pot only when you play it
Holding a marked card is not enough. Play it legally in the sequence, then collect its matching pot. Unclaimed tokens stay on the board for the next deal.
Restart with the opposite color
When a sequence stops, the last player must lead their lowest card of the opposite color. After a black sequence, lead red. After a red sequence, lead black.
Rummoli Pay Cards and Board Pots
Seven prizes are claimed when their cards are played, one is won at Poker, and one rewards the first player to empty their hand. Any unclaimed tokens stay on the board for the next deal.

How the Rummoli Sequence Works
The Poker winner leads their lowest available card. The next higher card in that suit must be played by whoever holds it. The sequence stops at an ace or when the next card is unavailable.
- Choose a legal lead: select your lowest available rank.
- Follow the forced rank: the highlighted card is the only legal play during a sequence.
- Switch after a stop: the last player leads their lowest card of the opposite color. If they cannot, the choice passes clockwise.
- Resolve a deadlock: if nobody can switch color, everyone pays one token per remaining card into the Rummoli pot.
- Go out first: empty your hand to win the tray and collect opponent card payments.
The Quick Browser Variation
This version uses four players, a 52-card deck, nine labeled pots, a sealed widow, and three deals per match. The dealer may exchange hands with the widow, but there is no auction.
The strongest five-card Poker hand is compared automatically without betting. The computer also handles antes, forced sequence cards, pay-card checks, and payouts.
After deal three, a fresh five-card Poker showdown awards every token still sitting in an unclaimed tray before the largest purse determines the match winner.
Rummoli Strategy
- Study the widow choice: a balanced hand with useful low cards is often worth keeping.
- Build a private run: prefer a lead that lets you release several consecutive cards.
- Plan the color switch: keep a useful low card in the opposite color for a later stop.
- Unload isolated low cards: lead them while you still control the table.
- Count opponent cards: a fast finish can earn more than a perfect-looking sequence.
Rummoli vs Michigan Rummy
Both games combine a pay board, Poker, and upward sequence play. This Rummoli table uses its own Canadian board cards, lets the dealer choose the widow, awards pay pots as cards are played, and requires an opposite-color restart after every stop.

Rummoli Questions
Is Rummoli the same as Michigan Rummy?
They are closely related, but the board cards and several table rules differ. This version keeps Rummoli's widow choice, pay-as-play pots, and opposite-color restarts.
What is the widow?
It is an extra face-down hand. The dealer may keep the original cards or exchange the entire hand for the unseen widow.
When are pay-card pots collected?
A player collects a marked pot when the matching card or complete combination has been played to the sequence.
Why must the next lead change color?
After an ace or unavailable next card stops a suit, Rummoli restarts with the lowest available card of the opposite color.
What happens to an unclaimed pot?
Its tokens carry over, then every player adds another token on the next deal.
How is the match winner decided?
After three deals, the player with the largest token purse wins.
