Pinochle is a partnership trick-taking game played with a special 48-card deck. The deck uses two copies of each 9, jack, queen, king, ten, and ace in every suit, so matching cards and meld combinations matter before the first trick is even led.

How Pinochle Works

Each player receives 12 cards. Trump is set for the hand, both partnerships score meld, and then players follow suit through the tricks. Aces, tens, and kings won in tricks count as counters, with a bonus counter for the last trick.

Start by reading your meld: runs in trump, marriages, pinochle, and arounds can create a strong opening score. During play, protect trump, save counters when possible, and use your partner's wins to keep valuable cards on your side.
