Penguin Solitaire - FreeCell Family Variant

Penguin is a skill-focused patience game with 7 flippers and a special "beak" card. The beak rank sets where foundations start, and it also controls which cards can fill empty tableau columns. See the Penguin Solitaire win rate for realistic expectations.

How to Play Penguin Solitaire

  • Beak: The first dealt card sets the starting rank for all foundations.
  • Foundations: Build up by suit starting at the beak rank (wrapping after King).
  • Tableau: Build down by suit.
  • Flippers: Use 7 single-card cells for temporary storage.
  • Empty columns: Only the rank directly below the beak can start an empty column.

Strategy Tips

  • Empty columns are powerful, but only one rank can start them, so protect those cards.
  • Use flippers to preserve suit runs and avoid breaking sequences.
  • Move to foundations steadily to unblock key cards in the tableau.
