How to Play Go Fish

    Select an opponent

    Choose the player you think is holding a rank you need.

  2. 2
    Choose a rank you hold

    Click any card in your hand. You may not ask for a rank you do not have.

  3. 3
    Take every match

    If the opponent has that rank, all matching cards move to your hand and you ask again.

  4. 4
    Go fish when they have none

    Draw one card from the pond. Drawing the requested rank lets you continue.

Books and turns

What Counts as a Book?

A book is all four suits of the same rank, such as A♣, A♦, A♥, and A♠. It leaves your hand automatically and appears in the bookcase.

Go Fish has several accepted variations. At this table, a successful ask or an exact fish keeps your turn. Play moves clockwise after a different fish, and the match ends after all 13 books are complete.

Memory tactics

Simple Go Fish Strategy

  • Remember ranks that other players request. Their questions reveal what is in their hands.
  • Ask the same player again after they receive cards of a rank you hold.
  • Build from pairs and triples first. They are closer to becoming books.
  • Use Hint when you want a useful suggestion without seeing hidden cards.

Can I ask for any rank?

No. You must hold at least one card of that rank.

Do I ask again after getting a match?

Yes. A successful ask keeps your turn.

What happens when the pond is empty?

Players keep asking with the cards they hold. The match ends after all 13 books are complete.
