What is Baker's Game Solitaire?
Baker's Game
A variant of FreeCell where you still have 4 free cells and 8 tableau columns, but tableau building is strictly by suit (not alternating colors). This one rule change reduces flexibility and makes planning much more punishing.
How It Differs From FreeCell
| Rule | FreeCell | Baker's Game |
|---|---|---|
| Tableau building | Down in alternating colors | Down in the same suit |
| Visibility | All cards visible | All cards visible |
| Free cells | 4 | 4 |
| Supermove idea | Manage empty cells/columns | Same, but fewer safe rebuild paths |
Why It Feels Harder
- More deadlocks: You can't "color-balance" a stack if the next needed suit card is buried.
- Less flexible staging: A temporary pile must already match the suit chain you're building.
- Free cells matter more: Each saved cell is another escape hatch when suit chains collide.
