    Danish Cucumber, also called Agurk

Four players compete individually with a standard 52-card deck. There are no partners and no trump. This is the traditional Danish two-life game, not a commercial special-deck edition or a mixture of regional rules.

    How to play

    1. Receive seven cards. Unused cards stay hidden. Aces are high, followed by king, queen, jack and ten down to two.
    2. The player left of the dealer leads any card. Others may match or beat the highest rank played so far, or play their own lowest card. You may choose your lowest even when you could overtake.
    3. Suits do not matter. The highest rank takes the trick; tied ranks are won by the last played. That player leads next. An ace may match another ace.
    4. Only the seventh trick gives a penalty. Its winner adds the rank of their final card: ace 14, king 13, queen 12, jack 11, otherwise face value.
    5. At 21 or more you lose a life. The first time, your score resets to the highest score among the other remaining players. The second time, you are out. The last player remaining wins.

    Equal-card bonuses

If you play the same rank as the final trick's winner but played it earlier, subtract that rank from your score, stopping at zero. Apply the loser's penalty and any first-life reset before applying these bonuses. A bonus cannot restore a lost life.

Why keep both high and low cards?

A low final card is useful only if you can keep it. High cards let you overtake without sacrificing your lowest. Leading a high card can force another player to spend the low card they wanted to save.

    After losing your lives

You can watch the remaining players and deal each next hand until the match finishes, or choose New Game. The scorecard distinguishes points from lives. Previous tricks stay available in the played-trick record.

    Controls and saving

Click or tap a legal card, or drag it to the center with a mouse. Keyboard users can Tab to a control and press Enter. On narrow screens, scroll your hand sideways to see every card. Hints never inspect opponents' hands. Sound is optional, reduced motion is respected, and the game pauses when the tab is hidden. Progress is saved after each move. Completed matches submit one account result. Guest results stay in this browser.
