How to Play Cheat in 60 Seconds

Each turn is a claim. The danger comes after the cards land face down.

  1. Follow the rankThe first claim is Aces, followed by Twos, Threes, and onward through Kings.
  2. Play 1 to 4 cardsPlace selected cards face down and claim they all match the required rank.
  3. Tell the truth or bluffYou must state the required rank, but the hidden cards do not have to match it.
  4. Challenge the latest claimCall Cheat before play continues. The pile is revealed and one player collects it.
  5. Survive the final challengeYour last face-down play must pass its challenge window before you win.

Cheat Card Game Rules, Demonstrated

Each replay uses real card faces and backs. Scroll safely or replay any example without disturbing the live table.

Rule 1

Play face down and claim the required rank

The dial says Queens. Select 1 to 4 cards and claim that every hidden card is a Queen.

Rule 2

Call Cheat to reveal the latest play

If a claimed Queen flips over as a 4, the challenged player lied and must collect the whole pile.

Rule 3

A wrong challenger takes the pile

If the revealed card really is the claimed Queen, the challenger collects every card in the center.

Rule 4

Your last play must survive

Reaching zero cards opens one final challenge window. You win only after everyone lets the claim pass or a challenge confirms it.

Beginner playbook

How to Win at Cheat

  1. 1Use truthful turns as coverDo not bluff every time. Honest claims make later lies harder to read.
  2. 2Count cards you holdIf you hold three Kings and someone claims two, the claim is impossible.
  3. 3Prefer small bluffsOne hidden card attracts less attention than dropping three or four at once.
  4. 4Watch low hand countsA player with one card left has a strong reason to bluff and deserves scrutiny.
  5. 5Challenge with evidenceA wrong call gives you the full pile, so suspicion alone can be expensive.

Use public information only

Hints find truthful cards and provably impossible claims. They never peek at an opponent's hidden cards.

Common questions

Cheat Card Game FAQ

Is Cheat the same game as Bullshit?

Usually, yes. Bullshit and BS are common names for the open-rank version. I Doubt It often refers to a closely related fixed-rank version, which this table uses. See the full comparison.

Can I lie about how many cards I played?

No. The number is visible and announced accurately. The bluff concerns the hidden rank of those cards.

Can I challenge an older claim?

No. A challenge applies only to the most recent face-down play and must happen before the next claim.

Do I win as soon as I play my last card?

Not quite. Your final claim must first survive the normal challenge window.
