What Makes This Game Different

Hearts is a free online card game where you try to avoid penalty cards and finish with the lowest score. Each round has 13 tricks, so passing, card memory, and timing matter.

Hearts Difficulty Levels

Cards are dealt randomly on every level. Difficulty changes how the three computer players pass and play cards, not the hand you receive.

Easy

Simple legal moves and random passing. Best when you are learning the rules.

Standard

Rule-based computer play that avoids obvious point cards and passes safer hands.

Hard

Simulation-based decisions that evaluate unseen cards and choose tougher plays.

Rules and Scoring

Classic Hearts uses 4 players, 13 tricks, and one goal: finish with the lowest score. Each Heart is 1 point and the Queen of Spades is 13 points.

Each Heart +1 Every Heart card adds 1 penalty point.
Queen of Spades +13 The main danger card in classic Hearts.
Shoot the Moon 26 Take every penalty card to reverse the round.

Before the round

Passing rotates left, right, across, then hold. The pass direction changes each round.

During each trick

You must follow suit if you can. The highest card in the led suit wins the trick and collects any penalty cards.

  • Keep low spades if the Queen of Spades is still unplayed.
  • Track all 13 Hearts so you know when a round is becoming dangerous.
  • Watch for players collecting points on purpose; they may be trying to shoot the moon.
