Golf Solitaire

Golf Solitaire is a low-score patience game. Clear face-up tableau cards by moving top cards onto the foundation when they are exactly one rank higher or lower. This version follows the strict rules: no wrapping, no play onto kings, and no redeal.

1 player 52-card deck 7 columns of 5 9 holes

How to Play Golf Solitaire

The deal creates seven columns of five face-up cards. One card starts the foundation and the remaining sixteen cards form the stock. Only the exposed bottom card of each column can move.

Move a tableau card onto the foundation if it is one rank above or below the current foundation card, ignoring suits. In strict Golf, kings block the foundation, and aces do not wrap to kings. Draw from the stock when no useful tableau move remains.

Golf Solitaire Strategy

  • Build long runs before drawing from the stock.
  • Prefer moves that uncover cards from taller columns.
  • Watch for kings because nothing can be played onto a king in strict Golf.
  • Use Undo to inspect a branch, then choose the line that keeps more ranks connected.

Golf Solitaire FAQ

Can aces and kings wrap?

No. This version uses strict Golf rules, so ace can play on two, queen can play on king only if the king is moving onto a queen, and nothing can be played onto a king.

How is Golf Solitaire scored?

Each card left in the tableau is one point. If you clear the tableau, you score negative points for unused stock cards. Lower is better across nine holes.
