Read the Contract Table

Your contract and Mina's contract are tracked separately. Open melds stay visible, while the central coach tells you whether to draw, meld, lay off, or discard.

1

Mina's Hand and Contract

Her thirteen hidden cards and current contract stay separate from yours.
2

Stock

Draw an unknown card when the visible discard does not help your contract.
3

Discard

Take the visible top card or finish your turn by placing one card here.
4

Your Table

Open your exact contract, then lay extra cards onto any open meld.

How to Play Frustration Rummy

Every turn follows a clear draw, meld, and discard rhythm. Progress only comes from completing the exact contract shown beside your name.

  1. Read your contractContract 1 needs three separate sets of three. Later contracts mix larger sets and longer suited runs.
  2. Draw one cardChoose the hidden stock card or take the visible top discard.
  3. Open the complete contractUse Meld / Lay Off when all required groups are in your hand. Partial contracts cannot be placed.
  4. Shed extra cardsAfter opening, add cards to any open meld or make new sets and runs.
  5. Discard to finishThe hand ends when a player has opened their contract and discards their final card.

Frustration Rummy Rules, Demonstrated

Use each replay button when you are ready. The cards clearly show contracts, wild-card limits, layoffs, and repeat hands.

Rule 1

Open the whole contract at once

You cannot place one set now and finish the contract later. Keep every required group in your hand until the complete contract is ready.

Rule 2

Keep more naturals than wilds

Twos and Jokers can fill missing cards. In this example, 2♦ represents a third Seven, so the final set has two natural Sevens and one wild.

Rule 3

Open before laying off

After your contract is on the table, extra cards may extend any open set or run. Before that moment, they must stay in your hand.

Rule 4

Miss it and repeat it

When someone goes out, each player who completed a contract advances. Anyone who did not complete theirs stays on the same number.

Wild-card limits

Twos, Jokers, Sets, and Runs

Wild cards

Twos and Jokers fill gaps

A Two never plays as a natural Two. Either wild can stand for a missing rank in a set or suited run.

Legal set

Naturals stay in the majority

Two natural Sevens plus one wild is legal. One natural plus two wilds is not. All-Two and all-Joker sets are the exception.

Legal run

Runs stay in one suit

A run follows consecutive ranks in one suit. Aces may be low or high, but a run never wraps from King through Ace to Two.

Play with purpose

Frustration Rummy Strategy

  • Build for the contract, not generic melds: three excellent runs do nothing when your current contract needs sets.
  • Protect your wild cards: use them on the hardest group, not the first easy set you notice.
  • Open as soon as it is safe: completing the contract protects your progress even if Mina goes out first.
  • Watch Mina's contract: her visible discard choices reveal whether she is collecting ranks or suits.
Common questions

Frustration Rummy FAQ

Why am I repeating the same contract?

You did not open the complete contract before the hand ended. Only players who completed their contract advance.

Can I place part of a contract?

No. You must hold every required set and run before opening any portion of the contract.

Can Mina and I be on different contracts?

Yes. Progress is individual, so one player can advance while the other repeats a failed contract.

Can I lay off before opening my contract?

No. Complete and open your own contract first, then add extra cards to open melds.
