Why Can't I Knock in Straight Gin?
That's not a bug - it's the defining feature! Straight Gin is a variant where knocking is completely disabled. The only way to end a round is to go Gin (have 0 deadwood).
How the UI Shows This
In our game, the knock button clearly indicates the rule:
- Button shows "GIN ONLY" when you have any deadwood
- Button changes to "GIN!" when you hit 0 deadwood
- The analysis panel shows your current deadwood count
Why Play Straight Gin?
Some players prefer Straight Gin because:
- More skill-based: No "lucky" early knocks
- Deeper strategy: Longer games reward card tracking
- Pure challenge: Completing all melds is satisfying
- No undercuts: Simpler scoring, only Gin matters
Want to Knock? Play Standard Gin Rummy
If you prefer the standard rules with knocking at ≤10 deadwood, play our regular Gin Rummy game instead.
