How to Play Accordion Solitaire (The Idle Year)
-
Setup: All 52 cards are dealt in a row from left to right, wrapping to multiple rows as needed.
-
Goal: Remove as many cards as possible, ideally ending with only one card.
-
Moves: You can place a card on top of another card if:
- They are the same suit (e.g., both hearts)
- They are the same rank (e.g., both kings)
- The card is either directly to the left of your card, or three cards to the left
-
Matching: When you place a card on another, the bottom card disappears. The remaining cards collapse to fill any gaps.
-
Winning: You win if you reduce the entire deck to just one card. If no more moves are possible, the game is over.
STRATEGY TIPS
Always check for matches three spaces back first, as this can open up more possibilities. Try to create sequences where multiple cards can be matched in succession. Pay attention to suits and ranks that appear frequently, as they provide more matching opportunities.
